Description:
This course, led by content expert Dr. Kandis Garland, provides comprehensive training covering two critical OSHA standards: the Bloodborne Pathogens Standard (29 CFR 1910.1030) and the Hazard Communication Standard (29 CFR 1910.1200). Participants will gain essential knowledge on identifying, mitigating, and preventing exposure to bloodborne pathogens (BBPs) and hazardous chemicals in the workplace. This course is designed for dental healthcare workers with exposure risks. Participants will learn how to ensure a safer work environment and meet OSHA regulatory requirements.ing the presentation while supplementing with valuable resources to provide ongoing support and comprehensive learning.
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
- Explain the key requirements of OSHA’s Bloodborne Pathogens and Hazard Communication Standards.
- Recognize common bloodborne pathogens, such as HIV, Hepatitis B (HBV), and Hepatitis C (HCV), and understand transmission methods.
- Implement Exposure Control Measures including engineering and work practice controls, personal protective equipment (PPE), and proper housekeeping procedures.
- Follow Emergency and Post-Exposure Protocols – Understand steps to take after potential exposure, including reporting procedures and post-exposure evaluation.
- Navigate and comprehend Safety Data Sheets (SDSs) to ensure safe handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous chemicals.
- Identify and interpret hazard labels using the Globally Harmonized System (GHS) to communicate chemical hazards effectively.
- Demonstrate proper use of PPE, decontamination procedures, and spill response techniques to minimize exposure risks when handling chemicals in the workplace.
